Alberto Cucco passed away peacefully on January 14, 2022 at Stamford Hospital. He was born on October 1, 1936 in Settefrati, Italy to parents Pasquale and Caterina Cucco. He is survived by his wife of 31 years, Theresa Conetta Cucco, his grandchildren Tony (and Sandy) Recchia of Monroe, John (and Dominika) Recchia of Shelton, Giovanni and Marisa Cucco, daughter in-law, Paula Cucco, of Newtown, great grandchildren, Anthony, Juliana, Adriana, and Alessandra Recchia, a sister, Maria Rullo, three sisters-in-law, Lucia Cucco of Stamford, Anna and Domenica Cucco of Settefrati, and countless loving nieces, nephews, and godchildren across two continents. He was predeceased by his wife, Giovanna DeRubeis Cucco, their beloved children Maria Rita and Salvatore, and three brothers, Antonio, Michele, and Mario Cucco. Albert and Giovanna immigrated to Stamford in 1960, but Albert’s heart never left Settefrati. He worked for Conde Nast Publishing in Greenwich and then for Pitney Bowes in Stamford for 36 years. During that time, he maintained a deep connection to the Settefratese community. He served as a Eucharistic Minister and choir member at Sacred Heart Church, was a member of The Knights of Columbus and was a long-time member of the Settefratese Club of Stamford. As a testament to his life-long devotion to the Madonna di Canneto, Albert helped raise funds for the annual feast held in her commemoration. After his wife’s death in 1969, Albert remained a dedicated father to his two children and loving grandfather to their children. He recently had the pleasure of accompanying his youngest grandson, Giovanni, on college tours and he treasured time spent with his great grandchildren in the last years of his long life. He met his second great love, Theresa in 1987, thanks to his son Sal’s timely introduction. The two married in 1991. They fortunately had several years when Mrs. Lena Conetta, Theresa’s mother, travelled with them and she became closely attached to her new son-in-law. Over the next years together, they were able to realize Albert’s dream of returning to Settefrati for their retirement. Albert is remembered to all as both a gentleman and a gentle man. He was known to family and friends alike as “Zio Alberto.” Over the last two decades, Albert and Theresa spent much of their time at their home, La Grotta Scura, cultivating a vegetable garden and olive grove, riding his Mercedes convertible through the Italian countryside with his Bichon Frise, Giulia, and spreading joy, delicious food, and often a song to all who crossed his path. Visiting hours will be Friday, January 21, 2022 from 5:00 PM – 7:00 PM at Lacerenza Funeral Home, 8 Schuyler Avenue, Stamford. A funeral Mass will be held at Sacred Heart Church, 37 Schuyler Avenue, in Stamford on Saturday, January 22, 2022, at 9:30 AM. If attending Mass, please go directly to the church.
