Angelo (Jay) Valenzano, Jr., lifelong Stamford resident, passed away on October 25th. He was 86 years old. Jay was one of six children born to the late Angelo and Marie (Sabia) Valenzano. Born February 22nd, 1935 he attended Stamford Public schools, then met and married the love of his life, Marie Racaniello. They were happily married for 57 years until her death in 2014. He is survived by his beloved children, Jeff Valenzano, his wife Nancy, and Susan Valenzano Smart, as well as three grandsons, Dan Valenzano, Scott Valenzano and Nicholas Smart, all of Stamford. He also leaves behind two sisters, Marie Rekosz and Vita Palmucci, two brothers, Richard Valenzano (Linda) and William Valenzano, along with many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his sister Carmella Moavero. Jay was a co-owner of Albero & Valenzano Plumbing and Heating for 40 years. He was also a talented craftsman who enjoyed remodeling and building. His craftsmanship can be found throughout his family’s homes where it will live on for years to come. He filled his time with lifelong friends playing cards, golf, traveling, and spending winters in Florida. Above all, he loved spending time with his family, whether preparing the annual Christmas Eve feast, cheering on his grandsons at various sporting events or tinkering away on custom cars. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, October 29th at 1:30 PM at St. Maurice Church, 358 Glenbrook Road, Stamford, CT. Interment will follow at St. John’s Cemetery, Darien, CT. Relatives and friends may call at the Lacerenza Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 8 Schuyler Avenue, Stamford, CT on Thursday, October 28th from 4:00 – 8:00 PM. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Jay’s memory to Stamford Youth Hockey, P.O. Box 4030, Stamford, CT 06907.
