Despina (Moshos) Adamis, long time resident of Stamford, passed away at her home on Saturday, July 10, 2021 with her family by her side. She was born March 23, 1940 in Sparta, Greece to the late John and Stella (Condos) Moshos, Sparta, Greece. She was the eldest of three children. She immigrated to the United States at the young age of 19. In 1961 she married George Adamis and made their life in Stamford, CT. Together they had 3 children, Demetrios (Vasiliki) Adamis, Diane (John) Skoparantzos and Stella Adamis. She is also survived by her three grandchildren, Alex, Evan and Amalia and her brother Evan (Helen) Moshos of Stamford, CT and sister Klementia Sakellaropoulos of Sparta Greece. She is predeceased by her husband, George and brother-in-law Nikolaki Sakellaropoulos. As she raised her children in the Greek Orthodox faith, she shared her love of education with the children of the parish and taught them the Greek Language. She also held a variety of jobs. It was at Connecticut National Bank, that her boss named her Debbie as Despina was too hard for him to pronounce. That name carried over to the family deli where all the customers addressed her this way. She worked side by side with her husband until her first battle with cancer. Despina was a warrior. It was her 4th battle with cancer that ultimately took her life. During her battles she maintained steadfast faith with God and continued with her sewing and baking. No holiday was without a splendid array of her Greek pastries and her holiday pillows and aprons. She was also the “yiayia” to all of her grandchildren’s friends making sure the neighborhood ate well as soon as they got off the school bus. She was an exceptional mother and grandmother. She was always ready to quote a Greek philosopher and how they handled a situation. So, if they can get through it, so can we. Arrangements are entrusted to the Lacerenza Funeral Home. A viewing will take place on Wednesday, July 14th at 10am followed by the funeral service at 11am at the Church of the Archangels, 1527 Bedford Street, Stamford, CT 06905. Interment will be at St. John’s Cemetery, Darien, CT. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Despina’s name to Archangels Greek Orthodox Church, 1527 Bedford Street, Stamford, CT.
