Dolores Berger, 88, a lifelong resident of Stamford, CT, passed away peacefully on January 21, at Memorial Sloan Kettering Hospital in New York City with her children by her side.
Dolores was born on December 14, 1934, in Stamford, to the late Michael and Victoria Calomino. Dolores was predeceased by her devoted husband and soulmate of 44 years, Dick Berger. Dolores is survived by her loving family, Dr. Susan Berger of Princeton, NJ, Michele Jee and son-in-law, John Jee, grandchildren Jack, Ryan, Sydney and Sara Jee of Greenwich, CT and Richard Berger Jr. and partner Jess Frie and granddaughter Brooklyn Berger of Harleysville, PA.
Dolores is also survived by her sister-in-law Marcia Calomino and is predeceased by her other siblings and their spouses: Ida Magnifico and husband John, Frank Calomino and wife Catherine, Ann Judice and husband Frank, and Michael Calomino Jr. Dolores is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews and their children.
Dolores was a graduate of the University of Connecticut. Upon graduating she worked at American Machine and Foundry in Greenwich, CT, where she met Dick. They married in 1962 and raised their three children in Stamford. Dolores returned to work when her youngest was in high school and spent many years at Evaluative Criteria, Inc in Stamford where she very much enjoyed working and developed many close and valued friendships.
Prior to COVID, Dolores was very active, exercising at the gym, attending group trips to Broadway shows and being a part of her bridge group, playing cards with her “bridge lady” friends. No day was complete unless Dolores had completed the New York Times crossword puzzle, especially on Sundays. She read 3 newspapers a day and was well informed on all subjects from politics to pop culture. She also was a devout Catholic and participated in St. Leo’s Rosary group.
Dolores was a devoted and loving mother and grandmother. Her most treasured times were spent with family on holidays and in the summer at the shore in New Jersey. She also delighted in attending her grandchildren’s swim meets and of late, watching remotely when her health did not allow her to travel.
Friends may call at the Lacerenza Funeral Home on Schuyler Avenue in Stamford on Thursday, January 26, from 4:00 to 7:00pm. A mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Leo Church, 24 Roxbury Road, Stamford, CT, on Friday, January 27 at 10:00 am. Interment will follow at Queen of Peace Cemetery on Rockrimmon Road, Stamford.
