Eleanor Maria Mead, a lifetime Stamford resident passed away on January 22, 2023, at the age of 85. Eleanor was born on May 14, 1937, on 67 Alvord Lane where she resided her entire life. She was born daughter of the late Oreste and Marianna Zolluccio who immigrated to Stamford from Marcianise, Caserta, Italy.
Eleanor was a devoted mother, grandmother, and wife to whom family meant everything. She was predeceased by her husband Fred Mead Sr. and is survived by her son Fred Mead Jr. and wife Gail, along with her grandchildren, Ryan and Casey. She is also survived by her niece Mimi Carey and husband Leo, and nephews Orrie Zolluccio and wife Gail, Jeff Zolluccio and wife Angela and their children, Jenna, Lauren, and Jeffrey. She is also predeceased by her brothers Angelo Charles Zolluccio and his first wife Josephine and second wife Bennie, and Salvatore Zolluccio and his wife Katherine.
Eleanor was a graduate of Stamford High school in 1955 and began her business career shortly after in the paint industry with Devoe & Reynolds where she progressed from bookkeeper to store manager, utilizing her friendly passionate personality with a focus on serving others while developing her technical skills for over 40 years. Eleanor also enjoyed a second career with the Darien Police Department serving as an administrator for 13 years where she again flourished serving others and building relationships.
Eleanor was also very active in the St. Augustine Council 41 as a Columbiette, Social Seniors at St. Catherine church, Glenville Seniors, Rosary Society, and the Sacred Heart Women’s Gild. She was also a lifetime parishioner of Sacred Heart Church in Stamford.
She will be missed by all those who knew and loved her, and she will be fondly remembered.
A mass of Christian burial will take place on Thursday, January 26, at 10:30 am at Sacred Heart Church, 37 Schuyler Ave, Stamford, CT 06902. The interment will immediately follow mass at Long Ridge Union Cemetery, 156 Erskine Rd, in Stamford.
With a mass ceremony only and no calling hours, in lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Eleanor Mead may be made to The Bennett Cancer Center in Stamford at www.support.stamfordhospitalfoundation.org.
