Emilio A. "Emil" Attanasio Jr., age 104, passed away peacefully after a brief illness on May 25, 2022 at Yale New Haven Hospital in New Haven, Ct. Emil was predeceased by his wife of 64 years, Jennie M. Attanasio, and an infant daughter Katherine. Emil was born in Stamford, Ct., son of the late Emilio Attanasio and Caterina Ferullo. He was also predeceased by his sister Rose Lombardo and two brothers, Nicholas Attanasio and Cosmo Attanasio. Emil was a World War II veteran who served in the U.S. Navy in the South Pacific Theatre, stationed at the islands of Hawaii & MIdway. He rose to the rank of Chief Petty Officer and received his Honorable Discharge in 1945. He spent the majority of his working career at American Cyanamid in Stamford, Ct. He lived in Stamford most of his life until moving to North Haven, Ct. in 2012. Emil was an avid bowler, golfer and fisherman and a longtime fan of the New York Yankees and the New York Football Giants. He is survived by his son Mark Attanasio and his wife Julie of North Haven, and his two grandsons Kyle Attanasio and Tyler Attanasio, of Shelton, Ct. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank the Yale New Haven Hospital medical staff and the Vitas Hospice staff for their care and kindness during Emil's time with them. Services will be on Tuesday May 31, 2022 from 9:00am to 11:00 am at the Lacerenza Funeral Home, 8 Schuyler Avenue, Stamford, Ct. Donations in Emil's memory should be made to the charity of your choice.
