Francesco Romano

Francesco Romano, one week shy of 94 years old, a resident of Stamford, CT passed away on August 10, 2023 at home surrounded by his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Francesco was born on August 16, 1929, in Minturno, Italy, the son of Nicola Romano and Pia Melograno.

Francesco was survived by his children Nicola Romano, Pia Conte, Antonio Romano spouse Sondra Romano, Teresa Franchina spouse Philip Franchina. His brothers Benedetto Romano spouse Pasqualina Romano, Antonio Romano spouse Filomena Romano, sisters Lidia Monacelli spouse Antonio Monacelli, Maria Romano, Rita Di Meglio spouse Franco Di Meglio, his sister-in-laws Concetta Romano and Filomena Romano. Eight grandchildren Cristina Romano, Antonio Conte, Tommaso Conte, Brooke Romano, Rachele Romano, Charles Franchina, Rachele Bella Franchina and Francesco Franchina. Four great-grandchildren Mario James Conte, Riley Conte, Alessia Conte and Chiara Conte. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Francesco is predeceased by his wife Filomena Romano, his brothers Fernando Romano, Giuseppe Romano, niece Marina Romano, sister-in-law Rafaella Aversa spouse Armando Aversa and Uncle Mario Melograno.

Francesco was proud of his Italian heritage. He enjoyed his craft of being a mason immensely, working on projects right up until his final days. He contributed to the building of many structures during the 67 years he lived in Stamford, CT from working on the Interstate 95 to the construction of Stillmeadow and Westhill schools in addition to many residential projects.

Francesco was an avid gardener. He was a storyteller. In his final days he imparted words of wisdom cradling his youngest great-grandchild reminding us of the importance of family love, the cycle of life, sunset – sunrise. He was the sunset and the baby was the sunrise. He exemplified love of family. Francesco was deeply loved and will be sorely missed.
