Georgia Handrinos Lathouris, 92, passed away from natural causes on Thursday, February 13, 2025 at her home in East Norwalk, CT surrounded by her family. She was born on January 18, 1933, in Artemisia, Greece to Panagiotis and Maria Handrinos. Georgia grew up in Artemisia, Greece where she met and married Vasilios Lathouris in 1955, her husband of 62 years.
In 1967, Georgia and Vasilios immigrated with their four children to Norwalk, CT, where she has lived since. Family and church were her two passions. Although she had no formal education, she encouraged and expected all her children and grandchildren to obtain a college education. She would often remark that in America there are no bounds, especially if you had an education. The betterment of her family and access to opportunities were her primary reasons for leaving her homeland.
She is survived by her son, Peter V. Lathouris, her daughters, Kanella Pappas, Maria Tziolis, and Kathy Mitas, their spouses, 13 grandchildren (4 of whom are named after her), and 6 great grandchildren.
She is predeceased by her husband, Vasilios Lathouris, and her brothers, Nikitas and Chris Handrinos.
Georgia will always be remembered for her strong will and determination to provide for her family. She leaves a legacy of dedication to family and church.
