Gina Uva, 74, a resident of Stamford, CT passed away peacefully on May 6, 2022 at Long Ridge Post Acute Care. Gina was born on January 13, 1948 in Bagnoli, Irpino Italy, the daughter of the late Salvatore and Antonia (Della Ripa) DiGiovanni. Gina immigrated from Italy at the age of 18 and brought her hairdressing and sewing skills with her. Gina was a hard worker who was always eager to learn new skills regardless of whether it was painting, mowing the lawn, trimming hedges, or altering clothes. Gina enjoyed cooking Southern Italian dishes for her family, baking traditional desserts for Easter and Christmas, listening to Italian records, dancing, going to the beach, and vacations to Atlantic City. Gina embarked on three transatlantic voyages aboard the Queen Elizabeth II with her husband. Gina was very outgoing, loved company, and enjoyed pleasing others, to the point of going on a tornado chasing vacation to make her daughter happy. Gina will be remembered for her beautiful smile and infectious laughter. She had a generous spirit, always offering help to anyone in need. She was a woman of faith who was a member of Sacred Heart Church in Stamford. Gina is survived by her devoted spouse Pasquale of 52 years, her loving daughters Linda (Costas) Zachariadis and Antonette Uva, her cherished granddaughter Stephanie Zachariadis, and her beloved pet cat Gretel. Gina is also survived by her brothers Antonio DiGiovanni (Sheila) and Carmine DiGiovanni, and sister Elvira (Antonio) Salvatore and sister-in-law Rina Uva of Prato, Italy, along with many nephews, nieces, aunts, uncles, and cousins both local and in Italy. Gina was predeceased by her parents Salvatore and Antonia DiGiovanni and brother-in-law Michele Lombardi of Italy. Calling hours will be held on Tuesday, May 10, 2022 from 9:00 – 11:00 a.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Sacred Heart Church at 11:30 a.m. Entombment will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Greenwich.
