Josephine Joan (Conti) Simonelli, 100, passed away peacefully of natural causes on November 1, 2023 with her family lovingly by her side.

Born June 16, 1923 to Louis and Virginia (Zinicola) Conti, Josephine lived her young life with her parents and three siblings Angelina, Joseph and Dorothy in Rochester, Pennsylvania, Minturno, Italy and eventually in Stamford, Connecticut where, in her twenties, she met and married the love of her life, Salvatore Simonelli.

Beloved wife, mother, aunt, grandmother and great-grandmother, Josephine spent her lifetime dedicated entirely to her extensive family, friends and community. Loving, cooking, and praying her way into the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing her, she was an unparalleled example of self-sacrifice, a paragon of piety, and a walking testament to Jesus’ commandment, “Love one another as I have loved you.” (John 13:34-35).

Josephine was predeceased by her parents, siblings, husband, son-in-law Joseph Socci, and granddaughter Ashley Simonelli, but will be fondly remembered by the many whose lives she touched, especially by her children: daughter Mary Angela and her husband Vincent “Skip” Cacciotti of Stamford, son Louis Simonelli and his wife Gina of Queens, New York, daughter Sally Jo Socci and her partner Ronald Gugliotto of Hopewell Junction, New York, son Angelo Simonelli of Stamford, and daughter-in-law Marie Joan Simonelli and her husband Larry Davidoff of Stamford.

To know Josephine was to love her and be loved by her. None know that better than the thirteen grandchildren and sixteen great-grandchildren whom she never missed an opportunity to spoil with love, hugs, kisses, and candy. Josephine will be sorely missed, but will forever live on in our hearts.

A funeral mass will be held on Saturday, November 11, 2023 at 11:00 AM at Sacred Heart Church, 37 Schulyer Avenue, Stamford, Connecticut.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Fairfield County Hospice House, One Den Road, Stamford, Connecticut 06902. (www.fairfieldcountyhouse.org) The family is so grateful to the nurses and staff there who cared for Josephine lovingly in the last weeks of her life here on earth.
