With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Joyce Mary Caselnova, a loving mother,
grandmother, and friend. Joyce passed away peacefully on December 31, 2024, at the age of 80,
at Calvary Hospital in the Bronx.
Born in Brooklyn on April 20, 1944, Joyce was the daughter of Atillio and Stella (Korpiel)
Cappellani. She lived in Brooklyn until 1971 when she moved to Danbury, Connecticut to raise
her family.
Joyce was a “class act” with a huge heart, was dedicated to her family, and lived a life packed
with adventure. She loved traveling, whether to a tropical destination where she could lay in the
sun or to Alaska where she was able to enjoy the beautiful scenery while flying in a helicopter.
She once mentioned that the only thing she always wanted to experience, but didn’t get the
chance to, was flying in a hot air balloon.
When she wasn’t traveling, Joyce cherished time with her family and friends, and had a gift for
bringing people together. Referred to as the “hostess with the mostest,” Joyce threw
unforgettable gatherings whether it was organizing corporate parties, hosting family events, or
putting together parties of the ages. In addition to her passion for hosting, she loved cooking for
her family, enjoyed a good glass of wine, a sfogliatella with her morning coffee, and dancing.
She was incredibly proud to watch her two sons race for Sports Car Club of America through the
late 90’s, especially loving Mother’s Day weekends racing at the Poconos Raceway followed by
a goblet of Italian Stallion to relax after a long day at the track. Joyce water skied on
Candlewood Lake, enjoyed horseback riding, and skiing in her youth. She also took interest in
learning to fly planes with a goal of getting her pilot's license.
Joyce worked as the office manager for First National Oil Brokers, Inc. in Norwalk, CT for 37
years where her dedication, organization, and business acumen made her an integral part of the
team. She also loved football Sundays and was a lifelong fan of the New York Jets, never losing
her loyalty despite the team’s never-ending seasonal disappointments.
She is survived by her son James and daughter Catherine, her daughter-in-law Maria
Fanelli-Caselnova, and her grandchildren Sophia Lucia and Kenneth III. Joyce is predeceased by
her eldest son, Kenneth II, who passed in 2009.
Joyce will forever be remembered for her love for her family, her adventurous spirit, her
strength, and the countless memories she shared with all who knew her.
Family and friends will be received on Saturday, January 11th, 2025 from 11 am to 1 pm at
Lacerenza Macari Family Funeral Home, 8 Schuyler Avenue, Stamford, CT. Burial will be
private. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Calvary Hospital in memory of Joyce
