Julio Charles Monteleone, 89, of Stamford, CT, passed away on February 15, 2022, peacefully at home. Julio was born on May 17, 1932 in Stamford, CT, the son of the late Charles Monteleone and Jennie Nuro. He attended Stamford public schools and graduated from Stamford High School in 1950 and attended barber school in New York City thereafter. He married Lucy Angelastro on October 10,1953 in Stamford, CT after a courtship that began as teenagers. He was a man of honor & humor, and nothing meant more to him than his family and friends. He was the heart of his family and relished in his role as the patriarch, doling out advice and stories to all who were around. Julio ran Belltown Barber Shop from 1953 for 48 years. He was an extremely dedicated worker, hardly ever taking a vacation so he could provide for his family. Julio was known as the “Mayor of Belltown” where customers and friends could stop by for a chat and talk about the issues of the day and his favorite topic: baseball. He lived for baseball and was a die-hard Brooklyn Dodgers and New York Mets fan. His interest in baseball led him and his wife Lucy to travel to 27 baseball stadiums across the country. When he was a younger adult, he also formed, managed, and played for the West Siders, a slow-pitch softball league that eventually went on to win the championship. Julio swooned over the Big Bands of the 1930’s & 1940’s; Harry James Band being his favorite. Collecting was one of his favorite hobbies, including Department 56 houses that he used to create elaborate Christmas displays, miniature liquor bottles, and Lionel Model Trains. He was an avid bowler in a league for years; his team even won prizes. He enjoyed diner breakfast food and visited over 250 diners in the tri-state area with his wife and good friends and had a morning coffee club with his boys. Actively involved in his community, he was an usher at St. Cecilia’s Church and delivered bagels weekly for the Boys and Girls Club. Julio is survived by his wife Lucy Monteleone, his daughters and their husbands, Charlene & Gregory Kiernan, and Karen & Philip. He is also survived by his three grandchildren, Alexandra (Alex), Victoria (Tori), and Charles (Chaz) Kiernan. Julio truly was beloved by all and left an impression on everyone he met. He will be deeply missed and recalled often by those who were lucky enough to know and love him.
