Louis (Louie) J. Martinoli Sr. of Darien 89 passed away two days shy of his 90th birthday on October 29, 2024.
He was born in Stamford on October 31, 1934, to the late Santi and Palmira (Bonesi) Martinoli.
Louie started a life of service while still in high school - First joining the Naval Reserves, then joining the Army where he served in the Military Police.
Louie met his wife, Elizabeth (Betsy) Popp of 60 years and the two started a family. Putting his MP training to work, Louie continued his commitment to serve and joined the Stamford Police Department. After serving in many roles including the Marine Division, Detective Bureau and overseeing Traffic and Safety Division he retired after 42 years on the job with the rank of Lieutenant.
As a lover of all sports, his favorite was baseball. A loyal New York Yankees fan, Louie enjoyed attending games while stationed at Fort Hamilton. He would tell you going to the old stadium was great, but meeting his idol, Joe DiMaggio when he was attending an event in Stamford was the best!
Louie is survived by his children, Joseph, Margaret Cooksey (James), Louis Jr (Valentina), Robert, John (Suzanne) and Dawn Re as well as eleven grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Besides his parents, Louie is predeceased by his wife, Betsy, sisters Mary Diaz, Josephine Martinoli and brother Joseph.
The family would like to recognize all of our kind neighbors as well as Louie’s doctors and their teams who helped him manage his health throughout his retirement: Dr. Neuberger, Dr. Schuster and & Dr. Pittaro, the team at the Tully Cardiac Rehab gym and lastly, the exceptional care at Norwalk Hospital and Waveny Lifecare. We can’t say Thank You enough for all of your support over the years, especially in his final weeks when he struggled the most.
Relatives and friends are invited to pay respects at the Lacerenza Macari Family Funeral Home, 8 Schuyler Ave, Stamford on Friday, November 1st, 10am-Noon, followed by burial at St. John Cemetery, Darien Ct.
