Marie Elizabeth Evanko, our beloved Grammy, age 78, a resident of Stamford, CT for the past 50 years, passed away on August 3rd at Stamford Hospital surrounded by her husband and three sons. Marie was born on July 6th, 1943 in White Plains, NY the daughter of the late Fred and Jean Annon. She graduated from the Academy of Resurrection in Rye, NY in 1962. She then earned her nursing license from The Foundling Hospital in New York City and continued to work at the hospital after graduation. Subsequently, she worked at Saint Agnes Hospital in White Plains, NY and Greenwich Hospital in Greenwich, CT. Marie then worked in the home healthcare industry and was the main office secretary for Springdale Elementary School. Most recently she worked for the Registrar of Voters in Stamford. Marie was actively involved in her community church and schools throughout her years in Stamford. During this time, she was always a devoted mother and wife raising her three active boys. She was the loudest parent in the stands, the life of the party and The Boss of the Evanko men. Her family always came first. Marie adored her seven grandchildren, and her favorite pastime was anything revolving around them. Whether it be a school event, baseball or softball game, taking them to the movies or just cooking her famous chicken nuggets and meatballs, her grandkids were always happily spoiled. Above all she loved being called Grammy. Marie spent many winter vacations in New Smyrna Beach Florida where she would enjoy “alive at five” with friends, sunrises on the beach, playing golf, laughing and drinking a good glass of homemade EvankoVino. Marie will be dearly missed by everyone she touched and those who were lucky to call her a friend. Marie is survived by her husband of 54 years Richard, children Michael and wife Jennifer (Buchanan), Fred and wife Denise (Sileo), Richard Jr and wife Maria (DeSantis), Sister Carol Donovan, Brother Fred Annon and grandchildren Riley, Anthony, Sofia, Charlotte, Nathan and Isabella. Marie is also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives and friends. Marie is predeceased by both of her parents and in-laws, Nephew David Donovan Jr, Granddaughter Grace Marie Evanko and brother-in-law David Donovan. There will be a wake on Monday August 9th at Lacerenza Funeral Home from 4:00pm-8:00pm and then a funeral service at Lacerenza Funeral Home the following day on Tuesday, August 10th at 10:30am followed by a private family service and burial at Queen of Peace Cemetery in Stamford, CT.
