A woman of great faith and filled with compassion, Marie Odancile Charleus joined the Kingdom of Heaven on Wednesday, February 19th 2020. Her life was marked by an innate joy that radiated through to anyone she came in contact with. Marie’s sense of humor and fun-spirited nature always shined. Native of Haiti, Marie, daughter of Eli Charleus and Luciana Joseph, was born on October 13th, 1924. Marie was one of 5 children, four brothers and one sister. Her survivors include; grandchildren, great grandchildren, niece, nephews and friends. While Marie was known for speaking her mind and very often could be challenging to work with, no one that truly knows her could express enough about the love and concern she held towards her family. She originally came to America to help raise countless nieces and nephews, grandchildren, and even a few children that were not her of own blood. Some may even say that she babysat most of the children on Connecticut Avenue. Marie loved her seven grandchildren with all her heart. She always wanted the best for them and would make sure to convey the importance of staying in school to get far in life. Marie was a blessing to all that knew her and she will be missed greatly. Her name was Marie Odancile Charleus, but to all the loved ones she touched throughout her long life she will be remembered as Grandma or Mariane.
