Mary D. Bonina Sunrise: July 6, 1927, Sunset: December 21, 2023. Mary reunited with the love of her life, her beloved husband Sal, in heaven. Mary was born to Clara Sabia and Louis Giancola in Stamford, Connecticut, where she spent ninety years of her life before moving to Shelton, Connecticut. A devoted Wife, Mother, and Grandmother, Mary prided herself on her homemaking skills. She was ever present for anyone in need, always ready to lend a helping hand.
After graduating from Stamford High School, Mary worked at Freibergs Ribbon Factory, where she met her beloved Sal, her husband of seventy years. As they raised their family together, Mary worked over thirty years in the Stamford school system as a clerk, secretary and finally head of the office. During these years Mary and Sal traveled all over the world, making precious memories with each other, with relatives and with friends. After retirement, she and Sal continued to share adventures as active members of the Pitney Bowes Golden Oldies.
Mary belonged to the Shelton Senior Center, where she regularly enjoyed social activities with her fellow members.
In addition to Sal, Mary was predeceased by her son-in-law James Sottosanti; her brothers Nicholas and James; and her sisters Angelina and Philomena. Mary is survived by her daughters Claire Sottosanti and Sally Anne Bonina; her grandchildren Vincent Bonina and his wife Holly, Michael Bonina, Jill Sottosanti and her husband Mark Malinovsky, Melissa Sproles and her husband Chris; her seven great grandchildren Kayla, Kelsey, Kassie, Lily, Rose, Salvatore (Sammy), and Charles (Charlie). Also surviving is a host of nieces and nephews. Mary’s family expresses their love and heartfelt thanks to the Shelton Lakes staff, whose love and care for Mary were nothing short of inspirational.
The Bonina family will receive the condolences and sympathy of family and friends on Thursday, December 28, 2023, 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at Lacerenza Macari Family Funeral home, 8 Schuyler Avenue, Stamford, CT. A Mass of Christian burial will follow at 12:30 p.m. Sacred Heart Church, 37 Schuyler Avenue, Stamford, CT. Burial will be private.
