Michael Paul Pia, 83, a resident of Stamford, Connecticut, passed away on July, 4 2024 at Stamford Hospital.
Michael was born on February 28, 1941 in Norwalk, Connecticut, the son of the late Eli Michael Pia and Norma Evelyn Bartram Pia. He attended Stamford Public Schools until he was 15.
Michael worked for Dunken Pump, installing artesian wells, for 14 years. He then left to open his own business, Pia Refuse, a home and private business sanitation route. Michael finished his career in sales for Dunken Pump, spending 7 years with them before his retirement. Michael loved music of all kinds, especially opera, Pavarotti, and 40s, 50s, and 60s music. He enjoyed watching classic movies and maintaining a home aquarium for his pet fish. As a child Michael loved to spend time boating and fishing with his Uncle Bud. Michael was active in supporting several worthwhile causes, including St. Jude’s Children's Hospital, pet welfare charities, and Catholic charities. He and his wife, Gale, enjoyed praying the rosary together every day.
Michael is survived by his wife, Gale Pia, sons Michael Pia, Jeffrey Pia and wife Karen, step children Cheryl Sciarretta, Craig Frasca and wife April, sister Barbara Varunes, niece Denise Altamura and children Rachel and Angela, uncle Bud Hayes, and cousins Ron, Gary along with his family. He is also survived by his many grandchildren and two great grandsons: Ashley Pia, Jennifer Pia, Emily Pia, John Coppola and wife Kari, Ron Horton and wife Zoe, Mario Sciarretta and Blake Coppola.
Michael is predeceased by his brother Paul Pia Sr., nephew Paulie Pia Jr., stepson Ronald Frasca, and wife from his first marriage Betty O'Grady Pia.
Family and friends will be received on July 11, 2024 from 4pm to 7pm at Lacerenza Macari Family Funeral Home, 8 Schuyler Avenue, Stamford, CT. A Funeral service will be held on July 12, 2024 at 10am also at Lacerenza Macari Family Funeral Home. Burial will immediately follow at St. John Cemetery in Springdale.
