Nancy C. Macari, a lifelong resident of Stamford, passed away on April 29, 2024. She was 90 years young.
Nancy was born in Stamford, CT on June 16,1933 to James Couremenos and Ephra Riberdy. She was a 1950 graduate of Stamford High School and spent many years as a professional legal secretary. In later years, she served for 10 years as church secretary at her home parish, St. Mary’s in Stamford.
She met her husband of 52 years, Michael Macari Sr, following high school. They were married on Sept. 6, 1954, and raised their family here in Stamford. Together, they operated Macari’s Soundview Market on Soundview Avenue in the Cove into the early 1970s.
Nancy had a great love of music, especially opera. She was a founding President of the Stamford Opera Company and a member of several choirs including St. Mary’s church choir for many years.
In later years, she relished passing on family recipes to her children and grandchildren, especially Holiday favorites for Easter, Christmas Eve and every family gathering.
Nancy is survived by her sons Michael Jr. and his wife Sally, Jerry and his partner Roe and daughter Diane Paster and husband Ted, along with ten grandchildren, Richard (wife Mady), David and Joey Macari, Jenna Cingari (husband Tom), Jordan Stefkovich (husband Daniel “D.J.”); Jerry Jr (wife Amy), Nick and Danielle Macari, Daniel and Allie Paster, and thirteen great grandchildren. Also surviving are sisters-in-law Antoinette Vagnone and Eleanor Macari, brother-in-law John Macari and his wife Susan, many beloved nieces and nephews, and friends who became family throughout the years.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her loving husband Michael, who passed away in 2006, and sister Catherine Mead.
There will be no calling hours. Family and friends are invited to gather for a Mass of Christian Burial which will be celebrated Friday, May 3, 2024, at 11:00 AM, at Sacred Heart Church, 37 Schuyler Avenue, Stamford, CT. Burial will be private.
The family would like to thank the staffs at Norwalk Hospital and Constellation Hospice for their extraordinary care of their mother during her final days.
