Neil Herbert Torstenson, 81, of Stamford, CT, passed away on March 19, 2020, at Sunrise Senior Living, a place he felt truly at home. Neil was born on April 6, 1938, the son of the late Frank Herbert and Evelyn Torstenson. He attended Roosevelt High School in Yonkers, New York. Neil was an outgoing, energetic, exceptional sales vendor for the Hoover and Eureka Vacuum Cleaner companies for almost fifty years. His passion for sales was acknowledged by the many awards he received and the respect and admiration of the dealers he served. He loved to dine-out with his daughter, Karen, at the Bull’s Head Diner and Hope Pizza, feasting on blueberry pancakes and mushroom pizza. He had many hobbies and interests: bowling, dancing, basketball, badminton, tennis, beach trips, swimming, Mohegan Sun bus trips, long drives in the countryside, watching his favorite NY sports teams, and most of all, visiting his grandchildren. He thoroughly took pride in taking them to his swim and tennis club, playing basketball with them, accompanying them trick-or-treating, playing black jack with them and vivaciously discussing scores/plays of his favorite teams: the Knicks, Yankees and Giants. His grandchildren were “his world.” Neil was a “gentle giant” at 6’ 2”. He always had a beautiful smile, never complained and was always willing to do whatever made others happy. He was everyone’s friend. Neil is survived by loving friends and family: devoted sister, Karen Creston and husband Joel, his daughter Karen and husband Andy, his niece, Kathy Rushton and husband Barnaby, his nephew, Don Creston and wife Kathy, his nephew, Brian Creston and wife Kristen, his grandchildren Mike Kober and wife Lauren, Steve Kober and fiancé Christine Swingler, Bobby Kober, Chris Kober, and Tricia Kober, many dear cousins, nieces and nephews, and his beloved friends Harry Eldridge and Marilyn Neuringer. Due to current circumstances, an unattended mass for the “repose of his soul” will be celebrated by Fr. Luke Suarez of the Church of the Holy Spirit in Stamford, and live-streamed on Tuesday, March 24 at 9:30am which can be accessed using the link below, succeeded by private burial. A future mass and “celebration of life” party will take place when the world returns to normalcy.
