Norma E. Pia, a longtime resident of Stamford, passed away on Tuesday, March 15, 2022 at the Wilton Meadows Health Care Center in Wilton, CT at the age of 103. She was born to Alma (Clark) and Paul Bartram in Norwalk, CT on April 22, 1918. Norma was raised in Norwalk and moved to Stamford when she married the love of her life Eli in 1936. They made their home on the west side where they raised their 3 children and where Norma lived for 66 years. Norma was a homemaker and took care of her family her entire life, including her parents, her children, her grandchildren and her great-grandchildren. Her home was a place where friends and family gathered around the dining room table, and many happy memories were made. She enjoyed crocheting and knitting and was a wonderful baker. She also enjoyed many trips to Catholic shrines and antique shops with her beloved daughter-in-law Betty. Norma was very devoted to her religion and her church, and she greatly enjoyed reading her collection of prayer books and the lives of the Saints. She was devoted to the Holy Rosary; you could always find her with her rosary beads in her hand up to her last day. She was predeceased by her husband Eli M. Pia, her son Paul T. Pia, her sister Marion Hayes, her beloved grandson Tommy Varunes, her daughter-in-law Betty Pia and her son-in-law John Varunes. Norma is survived by her daughter Barbara Pia Varunes, her son Michael P. Pia and his wife Gale, and Paul’s companion Linda Perri as well as her brother-in-law Clifford (Buddy) Hayes. She is also survived by her grandchildren Michael Pia, Denise Altamura, Jeffrey Pia and his wife Karen, and Paul T. Pia Jr., her great-grandchildren Rachel Altamura, Angela Altamura, Ashley Pia, Jennifer Pia, and Emily Burke and her nephews Ron Hayes, Gary Hayes and his wife Julie. The family would like to thank Wilton Meadows and RVNA Health for their kind and compassionate care of Norma during her last 2 years and last weeks respectively.
