Robert S. Calabrese, 76, passed away on February 9. He was born in Stamford, the son of the late Anthony and Clara Calabrese of Stamford, CT. Robert (Bob) served in the Navy aboard the USS New with a rank of QM3. He began his 47 year working career as a drafting engineer under work-study while in high school, working for Norma-Hoffman Bearings Corp in Stamford. With the firm acquired by FAG Bearings and later acquired by the Schaeffler Group, Bob was manager of Design Drafting until his retirement in 2013.
Bob, also known as UB (Uncle Bob) by many, always made himself available helping family and friends with whatever assistance they needed. He had a unique perspective which many called upon to help troubleshoot and solve mechanical challenges. Being very hands-on, he relished in disassembling until he found and fixed the issue.
His sense of humor was infectious; his smile brilliant; and his heart compassionate. He loved spending time with his family and friends, a sentiment that was always returned.
He is survived by his loving brother Ronald Calabrese and spouse Juliet Calabrese, nephew Lee Calabrese and spouse Aya Shirakawa, and several cousins and extended family.
The family deeply appreciates those relatives and friends who stepped in to help him as his illness progressed. The family also extends its sincere thanks to the wonderful staffs at Stamford Hospital and Connecticut Hospice for their comprehensive caretaking of our beloved Bob, surrounding him with comfort, caring and sensitivity during his stay at their facilities. Additionally we offer them thanks for the touching support given to those of us who visited Bob during his last days.
