Rocco Joseph Sansone, age 93, passed away after complications from Parkinson’s disease on March 22, 2018, in Stamford, Connecticut. Rocco is survived by Ann, his loving wife of 70 years; his sons William (Bill) of Stamford and Robert (Bob) and his wife Wendy, of Yarmouth, Maine; and his six grandchildren: Lindsay Wilson and Bill Wilson, Bobby Sansone (wife Marcy), Kevin Sansone (wife Anne), Alexa Sansone Rouleau (husband Zach) and Mary Sansone (Ian): and four great grandchildren; Cate, Dylan Rocco, Brody and Macyn. He is preceded in death by his beloved daughter Laura. Rocco was born on January 2, 1925 in Stamford, Connecticut, to parents Rocco and Victoria Sansone. He graduated from Stamford High School in 1943 and immediately joined the Navy to fight in World War II. He served on a sub-chaser and was off the shore of Normandy Beach on D-Day. After the war he accepted a position as a draftsman with CONDEC in Stamford, where he worked for more than 40 years. He was very active with St. Gabriel’s Church for decades until his health no longer allowed him to continue. Rocco, known as Rocky, and Ann loved to spend summers in their cottage on Cape Cod with their children, grandchildren and extended family. They enjoyed treating their children and cousins and later grandchildren to good times they could not experience as children growing up in the Great Depression. Rocky was affectionately known as Papa to his loving grandchildren as they enjoyed many adventures together on Cape Cod and making home-made pasta together. In his last 10 years, as his Parkinson’s progressed, he was lovingly cared for by his son Bill. There are no words to describe Bill’s dedication and devotion. A calling hour will be held on Tuesday March 27, 2018 at Lacerenza Funeral Home 8 Schuyler Ave Stamford, CT 06902 from 830am-930am, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Gabriel Church 948 Newfield Avenue in Stamford at 10am. Burial will be held at Queen of Peace Cemetery. All are welcome to attend and celebrate our dear Papa’s life. In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent to the Michael J Fox Foundation.
