Stefanos Mavrakis

Stefanos George Mavrakis, 92, a resident of Norwalk, CT, transitioned to heaven on February 10 at Cassena Care of Norwalk. Stefanos was born on March 16, 1928 in Mystras Greece, the son of the late Theodora and George Mavrakis. At barely 17, Stefanos volunteered/joined the Greek Army. He achieved being the Top Gunner, Morse Code Specialist and Weapons Trainor. For two 30 hour battles he was awarded 2 War Medals. Stefanos and his wife Ekaterini came to the United States in 1970. Stefanos worked for Clairol and Norma Hoffman for many years. Stefanos enjoyed playing the harmonica, fishing, and spending time with his friends and family. Stefanos was actively involved in the church choir in his younger years with his wife Ekaterini, and volunteered at many Greek Church Festivals. Stefanos is survived by his son Paul (wife Carol), daughter Theodora (husband Joseph Tarzia), Grandchildren Joseph Tarzia (wife Katina), Steven Tarzia (wife Elizabeth), Anthony Tarzia (wife Lauren), Catherine Tarzia (Fiancé Peter Mihalopoulos), Victoria Mavrakis and Sylvia Mavrakis. Survived by great-grandchildren Ginevra, Nicholas and Christopher and by many nieces and nephews. Stefanos is predeceased by his parents, wife Ekaterini, his brother Frank and his sister Margherita. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, February 17 at the Annunciation Greek Church on Newfield Ave., Stamford. Viewing from 9am - 10am. Service immediately afterwards. Burial to follow at St. John’s Cemetery, 223 Richards Ave., Norwalk.
