Umberto Gentile “Umbie”, 87 years old, a resident of Norwalk, CT, passed away from complications from Parkinson’s Disease on December 28th, 2023 at Norwalk Hospital surrounded by his family.

Umberto was born on January 28th, 1936 in Settefrati, Italy. He was the son of the late Loreto Gentile and late Loreta DioProsperi. He trained as a carpenter of fine furniture in Settefrati before moving to the United States at the age of 18. He served as a Medical Corpsman in the US Army, where he was stationed in Bad Kreuznach, West Germany. When he returned to the US, he was employed at Clairol for 33 years, during which he was promoted to Plant Operation Supervisor following his studies at Norwalk State Technical College. A quiet but present husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, Umberto’s voice could be heard passionately cheering on his favorite soccer team on tv, or his family from the sidelines. Umberto also enjoyed 20+ years as a Floridan, and was blessed to live a door away from his cousin Carmine Socci (Louisa), who grew to be like his brother.

Umberto is survived by his loving wife, Anna Maria (Semplicino) Gentile of 62 years, his three dedicated children Joan DiCostanzo (Ralph), David Gentile (Jane), and John L. Gentile (Yomar), his caring siblings Serafino Gentile (Teresa), Antonietta Casinelli, Phyllis Caporicci, and Vinnie Mitchell (David). He is blessed to also have seven grandchildren: Michael (MaryKate), Stephanie (Joe), Rachel (Matt), Joseph (Elisabeth), Jenna (Matt), Erianna, and Ashley, and most recently his great-grandchildren: Joseph Paul IV, Lilliana, Owen and Colton. He is also survived by his Sister-in-law, Elsie Semplicino, his 19 nieces and nephews, his 2 cousins Joe Fanone and Anita Ference and their family.

Umberto is predeceased by his grandmothers Filomena Gentile, Agnesa Macari, his Uncles Nunzio Gentile and Anthony Fanone, his Aunt Nancy Fanone, his sister-in-law Liliana Ciammaichella and his brother-in-laws, Romolo Ciammaichella, Erminio Semplicino, Nicola Casinelli and Tony Caporicci.

Family and Friends will be received on January 2nd, 2024 from 4:00-9:00 pm at Lacerenza Macari Family Funeral Home, 8 Schuyler Avenue, Stamford, CT. “Remember me in your heart:

Your thoughts, and your memories,

Of the times we loved,

The times we cried,

The times we fought,

The times we laughed.

For if you always think of me, I will never have gone.” - Margaret Mead
