Vito Anthony Cascia of Stamford, CT passed away January 11, 2023, Son of Leonard Cascia and Maria Louise Carlucci Cascia also of Stamford. He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Florence Albina Whitman Cascia, sister Leonora Cascia, sister-in-law Constance Whitman, sons, Leonard (Julie Lyonn Lieberman), Mark (Kimberly Bogdan), Christopher, Anthony, Paul (Lisa Gustafson), and predeceased by David (JoAnne Eveloy). He is also survived by 11 grandchildren Colin (Katharina), Lauren (Jessie Haggerty), Greer, Mia, Austin, Brandon, Marisa, Domenic, Joseph, Nicholas (Jaclyn), Patrick, and predeceased by Gabriel, and survived by great-grandson Theo Haggerty.

Vito was born on August 10, 1927 in the Hubbard Heights area of Stamford in a traditional Italian-American Family with a multitude of family members living nearby. He attended Stamford High School where he threw the javelin, ran track, and known as “Smash” as running back on football team. Offered a football scholarship at Villanova University, his college and football career was interrupted by being drafted into the Army post WWII. After a brief stint in the Army he decided to stay closer to home to complete his education by enrolling in Fordham University where he received an undergraduate degree and continued on as a post-grad to receive 2 Masters Degrees in Education. He then began teaching in the Stamford Public School System. An Eagle Scout, Vito devoted many summers serving as Waterfront Director at Camp Toquam, a position he thoroughly enjoyed and the source of many of the stories he told his children and grandchildren through the years.

He met the love of his life, Florence, on a blind date one spring evening while both were in their mid-twenties and was married shortly after. Vito and Florence spent the next 67+ years living in Stamford, raising their 6 boys, babysitting grandkids, and always being there with his kids whether enjoying coaching Little League or CYO basketball or attending every baseball, basketball, football, and wrestling games/matches up to and including their college careers. Summers were spent on his boat on Long Island Sound fishing and clamming.

After retiring from the School System as Elementary School Principal after 35+ years, he and Florence kept busy until their early 90’s traveling back and forth to the homes of his 6 kids now scattered along the Northeastern US, enjoying fishing the waters of the Atlantic, Long Island Sound, and Chesapeake Bay with his kids and grandkids, being King and Queen as master ballroom dancers, and spending every holiday or special event with his family.

Vito was a devoted and loving husband, father, and grandfather. He was selfless and never complained (even when ill). He was a charitable and devoted Catholic, never missing mass until too ill to do so. He always put his family ahead of himself, loved being around his loved ones, always ready with a story or joke and a smile on his face. He will be sorely missed by all who knew and loved him.
