William "Bill" Wu, 75, of Stamford, Connecticut, unexpectedly passed away on January 23, 2025. Born on September 5, 1949, in Guangzhou China to Gim Noon Wu and Shu Fong Wu, he was a devoted husband to Elena Wu and a loving father to Jessica St. Martin and Jonathan Wu.
At the age of 17, Bill moved to New York City in 1966, where he began working in Chinese restaurants as a dishwasher, waiter, and cook. In 1977, he embarked on a long and fulfilling career as a Sound Engineer at the United Nations. In 1978, he met Elena and they started a family in Stamford, Connecticut. Bill was a hardworking and dedicated professional, but he also found joy in life’s simple pleasures. He loved playing golf, fishing, cooking, and traveling with his family.
In 2005, after being advised to improve his health, Bill embraced jogging and walking at Cove Island Park. This routine continued for the past 20 years, not only enhancing his well-being but also introducing him to lifelong friends who became part of his extended family.
Bill retired in 2011 and continued to enjoy his pastimes and was cooking more than ever. His most treasured memories were with family; in particular with his granddaughter. Bill’s devotion to family extended to caring for his parents in New York with unwavering love and support. Always ready to lend a helping hand and to put their needs above his own.
In more recent years, Bill spent time at DiMare's Pastry Shop where he delighted in cappuccinos and lively conversations. Visiting DiMare’s quickly became part of Bill’s routine and was one of his favorite parts of the day. He loved everyone he met there.
Bill was preceded in death by his father, Gim Noon Wu. He is survived by his mother Shu Fong Wu, his wife Elena Wu, his daughter Jessica St. Martin and her husband Lucas St. Martin and his son Jonathan Wu. He also leaves behind his granddaughter Madeline and a baby girl arriving in July.
The Wu family expresses their heartfelt gratitude to Stamford Hospital and Yale New Haven Hospital for treating Bill with the utmost dignity and respect. A very special thanks to New England Donor Services for their compassionate care and for honoring Bill’s wish to be an organ donor.
In lieu of flowers, the Wu Family kindly requests donations be made to New England Donor Services at https://neds.org/give/, honoring Bill’s legacy of generosity and selflessness.
